«Portrait» with Xiaozhan
When he was filming in Xiangshan, Xiaozhan went for runs in the field almost every day. The sky was so blue, and he was often in the midst of the paddy fields, with rolling hills of uneven heights lying in the distance. As the breeze gently blew over, he didn’t need to think about anything. His friend still has some videos he took in those fields, often filmed under the setting sun, with only the sound of the wind and rustling leaves as the person taking the video is holding his breath. The camera slowly pans up from the fields, and occasionally there is the sound of distant thunder, but the camera doesn’t waver; he is still at ease as he stands in the middle of the field.

Happy Birthday, Misha Collins!

I just finished doing my fourth round of GISH, which over the years has inspired me and a friend to wear a hat made of kale (and an evening gown) to a country club, to cajole my niece into wearing a dress made entirely of construction paper and pose by my neighbor’s little red sports car, to brighten the day of WWII veterans at the local VA, and this year to help a four year old conquer his fear of strange noises in the dark. The beauty of GISH is that it gives you permission – and actively encourages you – to step outside your comfort zone. It makes weird a good thing, and underneath all the zaniness, it reminds us to be good to each other.
Those are two of the important things that Misha Collins has accomplished in the past decade, but there have been many more. There’s…

Jensen Ackles Reigns as King Bacchus LI at Mardi Gras

This year’s Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans was the gift that just kept on giving for Supernatural fans. Our very own Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester) was crowned King by the Krewe of Bacchus, making him Bacchus LI (51) and introducing him to a whole new group of people who probably have never heard of that little CW show he’s on. I have a feeling that Supernatural came away with lots of new fans, because Ackles seems to have charmed the entire city of New Orleans.
With his customary humble attitude, Ackles made the traditional visit to the local Children’s Hospital, joyously tweeted about by several teenagers and nurses who were beside themselves that Dean Winchester himself was right there in the lobby. From his first appearance as he stepped off the bus and was greeted with a high school band that then amusingly followed him around playing the whole…

Emotionally Powerful, Just How I like It – Supernatural Byzantium

I watched last week’s Supernatural episode at a Supernatural convention in Jacksonville with my friend , YouTuber Alana King. That meant we recorded our reactions live for her video, much of which consisted of me making stunned faces and needing lots of tissues, which our helpful friend Christina kept tossing over from off camera. Alana and I were in shock half the time, so there are long stretches of us frozen with our jaws hanging open (which is not very attractive NGL) but when we did get animated, there was a lot to say. I’ll link the video at the end if you’d like to laugh at us. Feel free!
Now that the con is over and I’ve had time to do a rewatch, I’ve got some deeper thoughts and some praise for pretty much everyone who had a hand in crafting this episode – and that makes me one…

Xiao Zhan, Wang Yibo’s The Untamed releases first batch of stills
I’m not even sure if I want to watch BL drama The Untamed, but I couldn’t say no to posting pictures of pretty people in ancient garb. Xiao Zhan plays a carefree young hero of the Jiang clan who appears 16 years later as the founder of the demonic sect, and controls an army of walking corpses. Wang Yibo (variety show Produce 101) costars as the righteous Lan Wangji, a cultivator of the orthodox sects.

ALL the Scoop on Supernatural at Comic Con 2018 – Part Two with Exclusive Video Interviews!

After thoroughly enjoying the Supernatural panel in Hall H (see part one of my epic Comic Con report here – Part One) we had an hour to rush to the press area and download some photos and eat a hot dog (you eat WAY too many hot dogs at Comic Con, just saying…). Then it was off to the Hilton Bayfront for the Supernatural press room. This is my second year in the press room, so I wasn’t quite as nervous about my technology failing me (though it did…) and more able to just enjoy the chance to chat with everyone. We had a great table of press, some of whom I already knew, and everyone had great questions. Press rooms can be stressful things, since there’s a very limited amount of time and no guarantee that every cast member will get to your table – which means I…

Salute to Supernatural – Pittsburgh! Part One

Returning to Pittsburgh con this year was bittersweet, since we knew this was to be the last Supernatural Creation con in the city. I opted to take the train again, which is a beautiful way to see rural Pennsylvania at its best while sipping a cup of coffee and eating a hot dog from the café car. What can I say, I like simple pleasures. Also the seats in the Pennsylvanian go wayyyy back and there’s a footrest, so… I’m easily amused. I was not, on the other hand, amused at all by the fact that the dispatcher saw fit to keep a slow-moving freight train ahead of our passenger train for hours instead of allowing us to pass, so I was late getting in and missed most of the Thursday night fun in the vendor room. Boo Amtrak.
In spite of that beginning, Pittcon lived up to my expectations…
